Chinese Zodiac Calculator

Enter your birth year to find your Chinese zodiac sign and element year. Based on the 12-animal Chinese calendar and five-element system.

What Is the Chinese Zodiac System?

Chinese astrology is a system based on a 12-year cycle. Each year is represented by an animal: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig. This 12-animal cycle also combines with five elements (Metal, Water, Wood, Fire, Earth) to create a grand 60-year cycle.

The Chinese calendar is based on the lunar calendar; the new year falls between January and February each year. For those born in January–February, the definitive result depends on the Chinese New Year date for that year. This tool gives an approximate calculation based on the Gregorian (solar) calendar.

What Are the Five Elements?

Each animal year is also paired with an element: Metal (years ending in 0–1), Water (2–3), Wood (4–5), Fire (6–7), Earth (8–9). For example, those born in 1990 were born in the Metal Horse year, and those born in 1998 in the Earth Tiger year.
